Attractions
There are many things to visit in Bourgogne, beside the wine makers and their facilities. The region is full of history and as such it boasts many pieces of Gothic and Romanesque architecture. Such examples are the cathedrals of St. Lazare and St. Etienne.

St. Lazare Cathedral
Info: The cathedral was built in 1120 on the highest point in Autun, to house the relics of St. Lazarus. On the facade, the tympanum in the central portal depicts the Last Judgment. Inside, a painting by Ingres depicts the martyrdom of St. Symphorien, who was killed in Autun.

St. Etienne Cathedral
Info: Pay a visit to the Flamboyant Gothic Cathedral of St. Etienne, begun in the 13th century but not completed until the 16th. The front facade with sculptured portals is remarkable and the stained glass, some of it original, is famous. In the crypt, which is all that remains of the Romanesque church that stood on this site, you can see 11th century frescoes.

Fine Art Museum
Info: The part of the old palace that you can visit contains one of France’s oldest and richest museums. It boasts exceptional sculpture, ducal kitchens from the mid-1400s, a collection of European paintings from the 14th to the 19th centuries, and modern French paintings and sculptures.

Burgundy Wine Museum
Info: Housed in the former mansion of the ducs de Bourgogne, the Musée du Vin de Bourgogne traces the evolution of the region’s wine making. The collection of tools, art objects and documents is contained in 15th and 16th century rooms. On display in the 14th century press house is a collection of wine presses.
